You can listen to Jeff Matthew on Epsom Hospital Radio every Thursday from 8 till 10pm. Tune in to Jeff's show and you'll hear a mix of news and conversation, local and national, Thursday's 24-hour challenge, some of the best music this side of the Tolworth Tower and after 9pm your record requests. Jeff is on the station's management committee and is responsible for getting EHR known about the hospital. The Question & Answer Zone... What's your favourite genre of music? When I used to present shows on hospital radio, life was tough if you weren't a Jim Reeves fan. It's great that everyone seems to have a more catholic taste in music nowadays. On Thursdays we try to reflect that so you'll hear quite a range of tunes. If we're doing our job properly, you'll be humming one of them the following morning. When you're not at Epsom Hospital Radio, what are you doing? You'll find me in a range of places, from the Number 293 bus to the Thai Cafe in Harrow & Wealdstone. If you had £1,000,000 to spend on yourself and no-one else what would you spend it on? I'd pull down Epsom Rail Station and put up something people will enjoy using and looking at. If there's anything left over I'll learn the clarinet and audition for Jools Holland. What is your ideal holiday destination? Edinburgh does it every time for me, closely followed by the Scottish Highlands. I passed through Montrose last year. You can park for free, people say hello, you see police strolling along the streets and even the loos are spotless. What is your favourite film? Not very hip, but it's an old film called Laughter in Paradise. It was made in 1951, has some great, tongue-in-cheek acting and is very, very British. You can look it up by clicking here. What is your favourite TV programme? It's odd but I've never been that keen on TV. Radio on the other hand, that's something else. I'd be lost without The Now Show. Who is your favourite comedian? Not a paid-up comedian, but the man who has made me laugh longest and loudest was Humphrey Lyttleton. Who is your favourite sports team/star? For the moment it's Laura Robson. I think she's going to make tennis a great deal more interesting. What is your favourite drink? Bottle Green's Ginger and Lemongrass cordial. What is your favourite food? The best meal I ever had was, curiously, in Ullapool. Herring in oatmeal, chips and peas. What inspires you? It's more a question of who than what. People who are prepared to see the other guy's point of view. Middle name? There is no more. Star sign? I have to say the only horoscope I ever believed was one I happened to write myself. Weird & wonderful talents? My first job after college was in a packing department. As a result, you give me a postcode and I'll normally be able to tell you the town. That's not to mention the things I can do with bubble wrap. Most treasured belongings? Not an easy question to answer. First place (if I owned it) would be Dyrham Park, near Bath. Unfortunately I don't so it goes instead to an off-air recording of a tribute to the great Roger Scott. Favourite smell? Vanilla pods. |
