Welcome to Andy Tijou's Online Portfolio.
On this site you will find some information about me, some examples of work I have done and recordings from a recent shows on Epsom Hospital Radio.
Born in November 1981 I was raised and educated in Epsom, Surrey.
I started university in the summer of 2000, doing a BSc in Internet Technology at the University Of Portsmouth. From the start of my university career I was strongly involved with the university's student radio station Pure FM. After two years of Studying Internet Technology, I realised that Radio was my passion in life, and opted to start a new course studying a subject more closely related to my chosen career path. I changed course and started again in the summer of 2002 graduating in 2005.
My dedication to radio stayed strong throughout the remainder of my course, in this time the station secured funding for a 28 day FM license and I was voted in as Station Manager of Pure FM for my final year at university.
Graduation from Portsmouth University saw me looking for a new challenge in radio on my quest for a career. I joined Epsom Hospital Radio where I was fast tracked past training thanks to my experience gained at university and started presenting a show on Saturday Mornings from 10 till midday, which I still present today. I am also involved with the events team, helping with out side broadcast at School Fetes, Weddings, etc, and The engineering team.
In the summer of 2006 I volunteered at Time 107.5FM in Romford to mix radio with another of my passions in life, football. During the football season, I am a sports Journalist for Time FM, this involves going to football matches, providing the studio's with updates on the game, then writing a match report and conducting post match interviews. Sadly my favourite football team AFC Wimbledon is not covered by Time FM's catchment area!
In August 2007 I started working for BBC Radio Resources as a Schedules Assistant. This is a fairly diverse job which involves booking out our studios in Western House so that the local radio stations can interview people without them having to travel around the country. We also run the studios. We also take requests for ISDN dial-ups and allocate ISDN codecs for outside broadcasts for the network radio programmes, we book News and Current Affairs (NCA) studios around the country for network radio programmes to do interviews with people without having to bring them into London and we prepare a daily schedule for the engineers in the London Control Room so they can connect the resource we book to the studio that requires it.
And finally I guess it goes without saying that I LOVE music, I do listen to lots of different genres of music, though my favourite is Indie & Rock. My favourite bands include Muse, The Artic Monkeys, Bloc Party, The Killers, The Arcade Fire, Franz Ferdinand, British Sea Power, Razorlight, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, The Mull Historical Society, Radiohead, Nirvana, The Beatles, R.E.M., E.L.O. and loads that I can't recall right now!
